Criteser Crossroad: QUERIES!

The Criteser Crossroad Queries is a feature of the Criteser Crossroad Web site at http://criteser.org. The Criteser Crossroad Queries specializes in the Criteser surname, related families and any families which have connections to the Crossroads (e.g. Bartholomew co, IN; Fulton co, IN, Lucas co, IA, Douglas co, OR ...). For a complete list of the Crossroad locations see the Localities page. With the power of internet search engines having the queries on the net gives the opportunity for genealogists around the world to easily find interesting genealogical queries.

Hence, The Criteser Crossroad will accept queries! In the future, perhaps an online form will be available, but for now email queries to walt@criteser.org. Send as many queries as you like, but send only one per email message.

When submitting a query the following items are required by the editor.

  1. Send query submissions to walt@criteser.org
  2. email subject should be "xroad query submission"
  3. Identify surname which should be used to index the query
  4. The body of the query
  5. The query should have a connection to one of the xroad localities

The editor makes the following suggestions when submitting queries.

  1. Identify contact information. Email address will always be listed, but if you want your u.s. mail and/or telephone listed too, you must explicately request them to be appended to the query. If contact information is not identified, then only your email address will be used.
  2. Currently there is no limit on query length. However, keep your queries precise and to the point. Try to keep them as a single paragraph. The editor recommends the query body not exceed five lines (where line width is 70 characters).
  3. The query should be directly or indirectly appropriate for at least one of the crossroad localities.
  4. In each query, attempt to include at least one full name, one date and one location - these three items will help give a signature to a query which readers can use to help determine if the query is meaningful to them. The location is important since these queries are for multiple counties and states.

The editor reserves the right to reject or make modifications to the query, but expects it to be rare because it would be too time consuming. The editor wants to be able to include queries as is. The editor will confirm receipt of all queries received via email. Allow approximately a week for the query to appear on the web. At this time, it is unknown how long queries will be listed - a future decision will be made based on usefulness of this service, query activity, availability of editors time, and available space.

At this time, there is no plan to publish and mail a traditional hardcopy version of the queries. However, all suggestions will be considered. Send all suggestions to the editor walt@criteser.org.

Give the URL to your internet genealogy friends. For your non-internet connected genealogy friends tell them to get their act together :-) I have attempted to organize in a simple way that will allow traditional hardcopy to be readable too, so if you are a nice person you could use the printing ability of your browser to hand your non net connected genealogy friends a traditional harcopy version.

In the future, the editor hopes to be able to gain permission to re-publish queries from traditional genealogical qaurterly publications for the localities of interest which do not have the resources to publish on the web. This will increase the circulation of the quarterly queries and benefit everyone performing research in the Crossroad localities. This will take time to arrange, so keep your fingers crossed.

In December 1996 the Genealogical Society of Douglas County (OR) approved and will allow the Crossroad to re-publish queries from their quarterly publication the Douglas County Pioneer. Re-published queries are tagged with the name of the publication.

Enough said... now for the queries.

KRITZER
Samuel KRITZER, born Greenup County Kentucky (GCK) about 1834, married Emma BARNEY, 28 Jul 1859, in GCK. Who was the father of THIS Samuel KRITZER? Emma BARNEY's maiden name may have been Emiline STORMS who married John R. BARNEY, 20 Oct 1840, in GCK. The reason I say "THIS" Samuel KRITZER is because there was another older Samuel CRITSER in GCK, who was the husband of Rebecca DOUGLAS BARNEY. I will refer to him as the elder Samuel CRITSER, since he was born in 1818 in Hancock County, [West] Virginia and arrived in GCK at least by 1841. The elder Samuel KRITSER married the widow Rebecca DOUGLAS BARNEY, 29 Oct 1841, in GCK. I have one candidate for the father of the younger Samuel KRITZER. He is John CRITSER (born between 1790-1800), who was enumerated 1830 census of GCK (plus 1m:5-10; 1m:10-15; 1f:5-10; 1f:40-50). Remember, the younger Samuel KRITZER was born about 1834. Going back before 1830, a John CRITSER purchased 52 acres from William BOYNTON in the French Grant, Green Township, Scioto County, Ohio, 26 Nov 1825. The two witnesses to this deed were Abram KRITZER and Mary FEURT. The 52-acre tract was located on Pine Creek, and was part of original French Grant Lot 74, first held by Stephen VILLENI. Continuing the thread, John CRITSER and his wife Charlotte sold the 52 acres to William HUDSON, 16 Oct 1827. Witnesses to the transaction were Peter and Mary FEURT. In conclusion, who was the father of the younger Samuel CRITSER? Query submitted by Randal W. Cooper; rwcooper@kellnet.com 3261 Pole Avenue; Lorain, OH 44053.

SHERBONDY
Looking for information on the children of William Henry SHERBONDY and Laura Alice MCAFEE, who were married in Gardiner, Douglas Co., OR in 1899. Their children were: Hazel, Oscar, Claude, Clarence, Floyd, Mary Thelma, and Ruby. I am particularly interested in learning more about Hazel, b. in Gardiner in March, 1900, who married Jack DIEHL and had four children, two of whom survived infancy--Audrey DIEHL and John DIEHL). She died during an illegal abortion while pregnant with her fifth child. When did this happen, and what became of Jack and the children? Also, I had always assumed Clarence SHERBONDY was William"s son by his second marriage to Cora ?, but a biography on William"s father Charles SHERBONDY mentions Clarence as being William and Laura"s third son. Does anyone have further information on him? Apparently he may be buried in or around Gardiner. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I"m willing to share information. Thank you! TULLER
Miriam (ROBINSON, THOMPSON) TULLER was my great great grandmother. I have looked into her history and followed her on the Oregon Trail. She settled on Clatsop Plains in 1847, was made a widow when indians murdered her husband, Arthur THOMPSON, during the California gold rush, married Jerimah G. TULLER in 1850 and around 1852 moved with the ROBINSON-MOTLEY-TULLER clan to Benton County. Around 1870 the TULLER's seperated from the ROBINSON-MOTLEY families and went to Douglas County. I have lost track of Miriam's history following her move to Douglas County. Please write if you have stumbled into Miriam and Jerimah TULLER in Douglas county. e-mail: kirkhamrs31@seasurf.net
