Louisa Imbler Jones (JWJ014)

Previous Next

The woman's name was not recorded on the back of this photograph, but the date she died was recorded.   I have reason to believe I incorrectly transcribed the date and I need to double check the original photo.   However, I already had this identical photograph in my collection, courtesy of another researcher, and it is identified as Louisa Imbler Jones, the wife of John Jones.   John Jones and Louisa Imbler are the parents of Jacob Wiley Jones.   I plan to update this page after I double check the date on the back of the photograph.

Okay, I double checked the date of death on the back of the photograph - "died April 12th, 1891".   So, I transcribed it correctly afterall.   Which means the date from the back of the photo does not match the date from the funeral card (JWJ017).   So there is a discrepency that cannot be explained at this time.   Next, I will dig through my files and find the previous version of this photo I obtained from another Jones family researcher and double check the comments that came with it.   Stay tuned for another update.   Ugh.

update:
Another Jones researcher pointed out Margaret Louisa Jones Dunham died 4/10/1891.   Only two days earlier than the date on the back of the photograph.   I wish I had a known photo of Margaret to compare to.   At this time, I think it unlikely the photo is of Margaret.   But, I will keep it noted and it may turn out useful later.

I double checked the first time I obtained this picture.   It was identified as Louisa Imbler.   So, still cannot explain the discrepency.
The possible explanations are
1) The photograph (JWJ014) is of Louisa Imbler Jones, but whoever wrote the date of death on the back of this identical portrait photo in the JWJ album got the death date wrong.
2) The photograph is of Louisa Imbler Jones, but the funeral card (JWJ017) for Mrs. John Jones is a "different" Mrs. John Jones than Louisa Imbler Jones.   I consider John Jones a common name, but in the context of the photo album it seems likely the "Mrs. John Jones" on the funeral card is Louisa.   Furthermore, the "accepted" date of death for Louisa matches the date on the funeral card.   So explanation #2 seems unlikely.
3) Or the photograph is NOT Louisa Imbler Jones!   This one is hard to swallow since the photograph was identified as her by a descendant and who has been a reliable source.   A strong case would need to be developed in order to change the identification.

At this time, I consider choice number 1 as the best explanation.
